Philosophy and Founding Principles

Angie Scott Design’s mission is to create homes that promote well-being for women with high-level, demanding careers that restore your soul and uplift your spirit by reducing stress and increasing joy, achieved through science-based design methods. There is so much more that goes into interior design than pretty! Yes, pretty is essential, but the process behind our decisions as interior designers is equally important. Angie Scott Design focuses on the principles of well-being and salutogenics – which means looking at health from a preventative perspective – when aspiring to live our optimal lives by aligning the mind, body, and spirit. Below are elements of well-being principles that I incorporate into all of my work.

HUMAN-CENTERED DESIGN

I design for people first! As designers, this should be the baseline in everything we do. Human-centered design means that you are at the center of the design process, above everything else. This ensures your space is both functional and desirable, based on your individual needs.

UNIVERSAL DESIGN

Universal design is an inclusive design practice that acknowledges and celebrates all people, regardless of their identities and sensibilities.

Cultural well-being celebrates and takes into account the values and norms of peoples’ ethnic backgrounds. It is important to recognize culture in interior design – as we design for people first – and people come with their varied and beautiful cultural histories. These perspectives are part of our identities and help inform our decisions as we navigate through life.

BIOPHILIC DESIGN

Biophilic design – or nature-based design – is one of the most critical factors when designing for well-being. Our roots began in nature, leaving us with a deep connection to it. Incorporating nature in interior design has been proven to aid in reducing stress and increasing happiness biologically and psychologically. For these reasons, I strive to incorporate and promote natural elements in my design practice.

EVIDENCE-BASED DESIGN

I use evidence- (science-) based research to create the best possible solutions for my clients. Using this practice lends credibility to my design solutions, while giving my clients significant support in enhancing their well-being.
